DINING WITH HABITAT // AD
I have always loved to host. Even back in the day when we had our first studio flat, I’d still love having people round for a coffee and cake. And nothing’s changed since then. Only now, I treat every meal like an occasion. Seriously, ask my husband. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. It all needs to be at the table, drinks, condiments, places set. The lot. I’ve no idea why to be honest. Maybe because it’s that really important family time? Come to think of it, it did change when we had Kai. Before we’d often just sit on the sofa in front on the TV and eat (ahh I miss those days!) but I don’t know. With Kai I just want to instil the importance of mealtimes and talking, catching up. Even if I get nothing out of him, I know it’s setting the standard for as he gets older.
I’ve partnered with Habitat to showcase their beautiful collection of tableware. It’s the stuff dreams are made of being able to cherry pick from their collection. I also plan to get a new kitchen this year so thought ahead and really planned what I think would go with my dream dove grey/white units! I went for the Olivia eggshell white 12-piece crockery set. This set is hand made in Portugal and decorated with reactive glaze which makes every single plate, bowl and side plate unique. And you can tell. It feels so hardwearing yet with delicate patterns. Throughout the whole house I don’t really feel it has a ‘look’. Just an amalgamation of things I like. But the dining room is in the extension and is so light, bright and airy so I have really enjoyed planning this space. This dining set and the beautiful Linen Grey tablecloth fit perfectly with our table. I wanted a minimal scandi feel in here. No fancy prints or garish table settings. We’ve paired this tablecloth with the Linen White napkins in white for the cutlery to sit on but also to mop any spillages (we have a five-year-old after all!). I chose white so not to get lost amongst the tablecloth.
I do love having food in the centre of the table to help yourselves to. I went for the Elzora chalk white bowl which has nice little handles and comes in a matt finish with a glossy, salt-glazed rim. This and the Elzora stoneware jug compliment the Olivia eggshell dining set perfectly. I kind of see the jug and serving plate being staples when we open up to the garden in the summer.
The Brighton Pewter cutlery set is the one I have been looking for forever I swear! I wanted this minimal, light feel to the dining table and all the tableware and this set fit it perfectly. Matt and rustic, sat on top of the napkins, they are just stunning! I also have this vision in my head for the new kitchen to have a glass cabinet or two with lights inside and shelves for the glassware, so I just had to go with the Dora ribbed drinking glasses. Simple and elegant, and light enough for little hands to be safe with them. You can’t have a jug and glasses on the table not expect Kai to get involved!
I remember years ago, when we were younger, that we’d settle for any set and still have random odd bits and pieces. But this set I know is going to stand the test of time. Fantastic quality tableware that is fit perfectly for this house. Absolutely in love with it all, thank you Habitat!
